Textile and quilt artworks from fifteen nations: Fifty works were chosen from more than 150 submissions by an international jury, which also included Judith Mundwiler. The artworks provide impressive proof that creativity, artistic inspiration and a critical approach to the times are not confined to painting, sculpture, graphic art and photography alone.  <\/p>\n

Politically motivated works reflect themes such as \u201cBlack Lives Matters\u201d or the situation of women in Afghanistan. Of course, the global pandemic and its complex ramifications both for individuals and for society as a whole occupy a weighty chunk of the artists\u2019 output. Other works emphasize the aesthetic moment and are devoted to creative issues, such as the play with color, form and materials.  <\/p>\n

\nThe \u201c8th European Quilt Triennale\u201d demonstrates the variety and artistic ambitions of contemporary art quilting. Seven Swiss female artists are represented \u2013 Edith Bieri-Hanselmann, Elsbeth Egger, Nesa Gschwend, Heidi K\u00f6nig, Beatrice Lanter, Rita Merten and Mich\u00e8le Samter \u2013 who represent the active quilting scene in the country.  The Doris Winter Memorial Prize, which honors innovation in materials, technique and design, went to Switzerland once again this year: it was awarded jointly to Heidi K\u00f6nig and Rita Merten.  <\/p>\n

\nThe \u201c8th European Quilt Triennale\u201d is organized by the Textilsammlung Max Berk Heidelberg and is on show in the Textile Museum St. Gallen as part of an exhibition tour from October 7, 2022 to April 9, 2023 (Easter Mondey). A catalogue with the same title is published with the exhibition, which is available in the shop at the Textile Museum.<\/p>\n
