Le textile est omniprésent. Qu’il s’agisse de sa conception, de sa production ou de son négoce, des dizaines de milliers de personnes lui devaient autrefois leur subsistance en Suisse (orientale), terre du textile. Aujourd’hui, les textiles nous enveloppent et nous entourent du matin au soir. Une Bonne étoffe – qu’est-ce que c’est ? Comment le textile a-t-il changé par le passé, quelle forme aura-t-il dans le futur ? Le Musée du textile de Saint-Gall abordera ces questions, et bien d’autres encore, dans le cadre de l’exposition permanente du même nom.

Une Bonne étoffe est une aide pour toutes les situations de la vie : les textiles nous accompagnent comme une seconde peau tout au long de notre existence, ils nous protègent, ils nous confèrent une appartenance et nous forgent une identité. Notre habillement nous permet aussi de communiquer en permanence avec notre environnement de façon non verbale et, parfois, de façon expressive. En outre, les textiles (d’intérieur) confèrent aux espaces professionnels et privés un aspect à la fois fonctionnel, chaleureux et esthétique.

Une Bonne étoffe encourage la créativité : les textiles attirent les regards et sont l’expression de notre mode de vie. Depuis le 19e siècle, le Musée du textile collecte et conserve des artefacts textiles, documente les processus de conception créatifs et l’inventivité technique. Les couleurs, les formes, les motifs et les matériaux de la collection unique de Saint-Gall mettent les sens des visiteuses en éveil et donnent des ailes à l’imagination des designeuses. Les créations actuelles qui voient le jour dans ce contexte peuvent être admirées dans cette exposition.

Une Bonne étoffe se vend dans le monde entier : pendant des siècles, les textiles ont été des produits d’exportation suisses majeurs. Jusqu’au 20e siècle, les broderies de Saint-Gall, les soieries de Zurich ou les imprimés du canton de Glaris ont trouvé des acquéreuses aux quatre coins du monde. Pendant l’entre-deux-guerres, l’industrie textile suisse s’est effondrée. Seuls quelques fabricants et négociants de produits de niche ont survécu. De nos jours, c’est surtout dans le monde de la médecine, dans le domaine de la mobilité ou dans celui de l’architecture qu’il y a une demande de « solutions textiles » intelligentes.

L’exposition permanente invite à un voyage d’exploration par le biais d’objets séduisants, de la robe de scène glamour à la corde à grimper pratique, en passant par l’album de motifs informatif. Bonne étoffe sollicite tous les sens : des films historiques nous font voyager dans la production de tissus en coton, tandis que des femmes témoins de l’époque révèlent leurs sources d’inspiration créatrices dans des interviews. On est au contact des matières premières textiles et des techniques de travail. Ou encore, face à la table à dessin, petits et grands sont invités à esquisser de leurs propres mains tissus et vêtements.

Et si la fatigue vous prend face à tant d’impressions et d’exercices, vous pourrez vous reposer dans l’oasis de bien-être textile conçue par l’entreprise traditionnelle saint-galloise Christian Fischbacher. Avec Bonne étoffe, le Musée du textile offre la possibilité, à partir du 12 mai 2023, de se plonger dans le monde fascinant des textiles.

L’exposition All You CanNOT Eat. Fake Food sur tissu  s’inspire d’un restaurant dans lequel rien de ce qui pourrait être mangé ou bu n’est servi.

Sur la base des collections du Musée du textile de Saint-Gall, les tables de divers convives sont couvertes d’objets d’exposition représentant des denrées alimentaires. Des époques, des classes sociales et des goûts différents se rencontrent et entrent en relation les uns avec les autres. 

La prise de nourriture par les humains est un moment fugace. L’être humain doit ingérer des aliments et des boissons avant qu’ils ne se gâtent et ne pourrissent. Dans l’acte de consommer, la chose mangée et la chose bue sortent du cadre social. Pour atténuer et empêcher cette «disparition», la chose comestible est représentée et ainsi pérennisée.

All You CanNOT Eat explore à travers une exposition et une série d’événements la culture de la table face à la fake food. Pour aller plus loin, des imprimés et des imitations de produits comestibles dans la mode sont mis en lumière.

L’exposition « MATERIAL MATTERS. De la fibre à la mode » est consacrée aux matières premières textiles, à leur production et à la confection dans l’industrie de l’habillement. Des costumes et des tissus de 1800 jusqu’à nos jours illustrent la diversité et la beauté des matières textiles et témoignent de leur influence sur la mode au fil du temps.

« MATERIAL MATTERS » explore la relation entre la matière et la mode en présentant une sélection de vêtements datant des deux cents dernières années. L’exposition s’interroge sur l’influence que peuvent avoir sur la mode des facteurs telles les caractéristiques des matières ou la disponibilité et l’évolution des prix des matières premières. Les transformations sociales telles qu’une prospérité croissante et une prise de conscience importante des enjeux environnementaux ainsi que les innovations technologiques dans le domaine du textile ont, elles aussi, un impact sur l’industrie de la mode et font évoluer nos habitudes vestimentaires.

Le cabinet des fibres est l’un des éléments phares de l’exposition. Il met en lumière la production et la transformation de matières premières textiles naturelles et artificielles, de la fibre au tissu en passant par le fil. Des applications et bornes interactives ainsi que des jeux invitent le public de tout âge à découvrir un sujet passionnant, aux multiples facettes. Parmi les points forts de cette exposition, les interrogations sur l’impact environnemental des matières et procédés.

En ces temps où la mode est éphémère et bon marché, la notion de la valeur des textiles risque de se perdre. Pour y remédier, l’exposition « MATERIAL MATTERS. De la fibre à la mode » se propose d’informer le public sur les procédés de fabrication sophistiqués et très gourmands en matières premières et de l’amener à prendre conscience de la beauté et de la diversité des objets textiles. L’exposition aura lieu du 15 mai 2020 au 24 janvier 2021 inclus au Musée du textile de Saint-Gall. Le cabinet des fibres restera ouvert au public à l’issue de l’exposition, et ce, jusqu’à fin 2021.

Dans le salon du Musée du Textile, nous présentons une sélection de tissus provenant des collections actuelles automne/hiver des fabricants de textiles suisses.

Des nuances naturelles comme le brun et le vert annoncent l'automne et des combinaisons de tissus scintillants aux couleurs festives accompagnent la saison hivernale. Les fabricants suisses de textiles présenteront des innovations dans les domaines de la lingerie, des textiles d'intérieur et des vêtements pour hommes et femmes. Les motifs vont de différentes techniques de broderie et d'une variété de tissus à l'utilisation de matériaux recyclés. Les couleurs or et argent en combinaison avec des couleurs fortes sont mises en évidence. L'exposition rend visible l'évolution de la technique, des matériaux et des conceptions. En outre, Swiss Textiles présentera un exposé sur l'évolution de l'industrie textile.

En complément de l’exposition « 100 nuances de blanc. Une couleur à la mode », on peut découvrir dans le lounge du Musée du textile l’installation « GOLD _ Zimmer #0 » de l’artiste Alessandra Beltrame.

Dans l’installation « GOLD _ Zimmer #0 » conçue pour le Musée du textile de Saint-Gall, l’artiste Alessandra Beltrame explore la ligne de séparation entre l’ordinaire et l’inouï. Elle enveloppe des objets du quotidien dans du cuir doré et joue avec la perception du spectateur. Cela entraîne l’émergence de nouvelles références sociopolitiques. L’artiste tisse ainsi un parcours d’interprétation, comme elle le décrit elle-même, « en repoussant la perception au-delà de la limite sécurisante de l’habituel, afin de permettre, lors de l’observation, l’expression d’une autre lecture, d’une réalité apparente. »

Le textile est omniprésent. Qu’il s’agisse de sa conception, de sa production ou de son négoce, des dizaines de milliers de personnes lui devaient autrefois leur subsistance en Suisse (orientale), terre du textile. Aujourd’hui, les textiles nous enveloppent et nous entourent du matin au soir. Une Bonne étoffe – qu’est-ce que c’est ? Comment le textile a-t-il changé par le passé, quelle forme aura-t-il dans le futur ? Le Musée du textile de Saint-Gall abordera ces questions, et bien d’autres encore, dans le cadre de l’exposition permanente du même nom.

Une Bonne étoffe est une aide pour toutes les situations de la vie : les textiles nous accompagnent comme une seconde peau tout au long de notre existence, ils nous protègent, ils nous confèrent une appartenance et nous forgent une identité. Notre habillement nous permet aussi de communiquer en permanence avec notre environnement de façon non verbale et, parfois, de façon expressive. En outre, les textiles (d’intérieur) confèrent aux espaces professionnels et privés un aspect à la fois fonctionnel, chaleureux et esthétique.

Une Bonne étoffe encourage la créativité : les textiles attirent les regards et sont l’expression de notre mode de vie. Depuis le 19e siècle, le Musée du textile collecte et conserve des artefacts textiles, documente les processus de conception créatifs et l’inventivité technique. Les couleurs, les formes, les motifs et les matériaux de la collection unique de Saint-Gall mettent les sens des visiteuses en éveil et donnent des ailes à l’imagination des designeuses. Les créations actuelles qui voient le jour dans ce contexte peuvent être admirées dans cette exposition.

Une Bonne étoffe se vend dans le monde entier : pendant des siècles, les textiles ont été des produits d’exportation suisses majeurs. Jusqu’au 20e siècle, les broderies de Saint-Gall, les soieries de Zurich ou les imprimés du canton de Glaris ont trouvé des acquéreuses aux quatre coins du monde. Pendant l’entre-deux-guerres, l’industrie textile suisse s’est effondrée. Seuls quelques fabricants et négociants de produits de niche ont survécu. De nos jours, c’est surtout dans le monde de la médecine, dans le domaine de la mobilité ou dans celui de l’architecture qu’il y a une demande de « solutions textiles » intelligentes.

L’exposition permanente invite à un voyage d’exploration par le biais d’objets séduisants, de la robe de scène glamour à la corde à grimper pratique, en passant par l’album de motifs informatif. Bonne étoffe sollicite tous les sens : des films historiques nous font voyager dans la production de tissus en coton, tandis que des femmes témoins de l’époque révèlent leurs sources d’inspiration créatrices dans des interviews. On est au contact des matières premières textiles et des techniques de travail. Ou encore, face à la table à dessin, petits et grands sont invités à esquisser de leurs propres mains tissus et vêtements.
